EasyFit’s new offering for the fall is online coaching. Jerome Röpelinen, the personal trainer for the online coaching program, explains why you should join the program and what it has to offer.
Why choose online training?
One advantage of online coaching is that it may be more affordable than, for example, one-on-one coaching or small-group coaching. Online coaching is also flexible and is sure to fit into many people’s daily lives, since there are no pre-scheduled sessions—instead, you can tailor your workouts and other activities to fit your own schedule. These days, not all of us follow a 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. schedule anymore; sometimes you have to fit in your daily workout early in the morning, late at night, or even in the middle of the night.
These days, there are many different types of online training programs—so there’s probably something for everyone! For example, you can find online training programs from various providers that focus on building muscle mass, increasing strength, losing weight, and nutrition. The popularity of online coaching programs has grown in recent years, and thanks to their wide range of options, it’s sure to keep growing.
Who is online coaching suitable for?
When you find an online coaching program that meets your needs and goals, it’s sure to be a good fit for most of us! If we’re talking specifically about programs focused on gym workouts, online coaching is an excellent way to get guidance and support, especially for those who are a bit more advanced.
However, for beginners, I recommend first working with a qualified personal trainer in one-on-one or small-group sessions so that you can at least become familiar with the basic principles of gym training. Many exercises may require an outside “eye” and guidance, so many online training programs may not be suitable for complete beginners.
What if some of the exercises aren't right for me?
Good online training programs certainly take this into account. If, for example, you had to do deadlifts, your options might include a) using a straight bar, b) using a trap bar, or c) using a kettlebell. From these, you can choose the one that works best for you.
There are quite a few stores that carry different variations, so you're sure to find the right one for you there! 🙂
Many training programs also offer the opportunity to receive support from a coach during the trip, so it’s a good idea to ask about this through the chat or forum set up for that purpose.
What if I don't have time to do all the workouts?
Life is full of surprises; you never know what the day will bring. It could be that, due to some unforeseen circumstance, you’ll have to skip your workout. Let’s say, for example, that your child catches a mild cold and you have to stay home with them for several days. Our training program offers the option to do a nearly identical workout at home using small equipment, such as resistance bands or other small props.
On the other hand, there’s no need to worry too much if you don’t have time to do all the workouts. Once again, in good online training programs, this has surely been taken into account to some extent. For example, there might be 2 “mandatory” workouts during the week, and then, if you have the time and energy, 1–2 optional workouts. I think we all have enough time for those two mandatory workouts, as long as we prioritize a little time for ourselves and for improving and maintaining our health.
How important is it to commit to online coaching?
Ultimately, everyone decides this for themselves, but if you want to make progress, you should commit to training at a sufficient level. It may be that you don’t need to do absolutely every workout, especially if they’re optional, but you should still do at least two high-quality gym workouts, for example, so that you can, at least in theory, expect to see progress.
What does online coaching involve?
EasyFit's online coaching program includes a workout plan, a nutrition plan, and support from a coach. Some online coaching programs may also offer support from other participants.
Workout programs usually come with a helpful collection of videos and images that provide instructions on how to perform the exercises. The online trainer also makes sure you understand the “workout system” they’ve designed, which you’ll then follow as the program progresses.
Nutrition plans certainly depend on the nature of the training program. The nutrition aspect can be very flexible, with only clear guidelines provided for a diet that supports training. The other extreme could be a very strict diet where everything is weighed and calculated down to the last detail. Especially with the latter, it’s worth considering whether it’s really the right fit for you.
The support of other participants can be crucial for some people, because they want to be part of a group. This fosters a culture of working together and a sense of belonging that helps keep people motivated during training.
In some training sessions, it's also possible to ask the coach(es) questions, for example, through a separate chat or forum.
